Around 1931, he felt the need to expand and opened a shop called the Rose Bud. This store occupied a spot on the square. Apopular item was the grilled chocolate sandwich. George Stamas later lost the Rose Bud due to the Great Depression. With the help of a friend, the Busy Bee was reopened in the Arcade in 1946. He retired from the Busy Bee to open a candy shop across from the Arcade Movie Theater

George Stamas passed away in 1952 and the store was left to his daughter, Bessie and her husband, Gus Goumas. The store was renamed Goumas Candyland.

Gus Goumas loved making candy and helped work to make the candy store famous. In 1985 Gus Goumas passed away leaving the business to his wife. With the help of their children, the business continues to grow and prosper.

Soon the business outgrew the arcade store and a new location was established in Heath, Ohio. Customers can purchase Goumas Candy from the Heath or Newark(on the square) location.

Today, Bessie "Stamas" Goumas is still active in the business. She works daily and thrives on making sure everything is just right. During the busy holiday seasons, the fourth generation Goumas’ work in the store.

Goumas Candyland is known for hand dipped chocolates, truffles, toffee, and caramels. While all three locations are in central Ohio, our candy is shipped all over the world. Although the amount of candy produced has increased greatly since 1911, the quality still remains the same because the family continues to use the same recipes and the finest ingredients available.
